Hello! My name is Yvonne, but everyone always calls me Vonnie. I am the resident blogger for Good Karma <3 I love the idea of writing a blog, but I realized its hard to be informal and personal when I haven’t actually introduced myself or given you a reason to want to read my blog! SO, thank you for your patience as I learn this whole thing!
I have always wanted to be “healthy” but there are so many mixed messages about what that means and how to even do it. I felt like I was floundering around in my early twenties, trying to do what random magazines and books suggested but I wasn’t happy with how I felt or my body. And then, dun da da dun, I found yoga! I was ‘yoga-curious’ for a few years before I got the guts to actually go to a class. I didn’t know what to wear, what I should bring, it seemed so different from the classes at the gym that I was used to. But once I went to my first class, I was hooked! I had to go back. It was love at first flow.
The Buddhists call it our monkey mind. We are out of the present moment, swinging between the past and the future. Our busy mind is almost always thinking, and it tends to be about something we should have done or something we need to do. It takes a lot of effort to stay fully aware in the present moment. We probably don’t realize the tremendous amount of time we spend with our minds bouncing between the past and the future.
Ah November, the month to feel thankful for our many blessings. I have heard a lot of advice over the years about how to cultivate an ‘attitude of gratitude’. Maybe you’ve tried thinking of one thing each day to be grateful for, a gratitude journal, or saying a prayer of thanks each morning. In one of my Pinterest-y moments I made this. Its pretty easy, stick a piece of paper in a picture frame so you can write with a dry erase marker, and voila! As you can see its well-loved! Still, I needed more. It didn’t feel like finding gratitude once a day really changed much.
